about
'Of Evergreen' was written in the long part of winter. It speaks to the times when we begin to doubt that our own seeds of renewal will ever again blossom.
It is a song which Nika and I have carried around with us for some time, and seemed like the perfect choice to work on with guitarist and producer Dave Miller.
Recorded in the colder part of the year at Whisky Point Recording, Chicago
lyrics
When my good self does forget me
And my eyes can’t see the road
When walking only finds me
In some strange smelling abode
When the things I carry with me
Are gifts which are refused
When I offer words of kindness
But I don’t believe my views
I pray to the god of yet revealed
That she will have yet more strings for my bow
And when the fiddle calls the tune
I will be open to you
When I no longer see the difference
Between strangers and good friends
When bloody minded is my focus
because all I want are ends
When love is something taken
From one who has more than enough
When I can’t see myself receiving
When all my giving has dried up
I pray to the god of evergreen
That she will preserve my good nature
And when the winter becomes spring
I will be open to you
